House approves bill to recognize Patriot Week
Yesterday, the State House overwhelmingly passed House Bill 4464 which would permanently recognize Patriot Week. The vote was 106-1. Patriot Week was co-created by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his 12-year old daughter Leah.
"The House's passage of the Patriot Week bill on the eve of the Independence Day weekend is very fitting," remarked Judge Warren. "All Americans need to take time to remember what keeps us free, and Patriot Week is vital to renewing the American spirit. If we are to maintain our liberty in a free republic, our citizens must have a deeply rooted understanding of our Constitution, its generating history, and its underlying First Principles. Passage of House Bill 4464 is an important step in maintaining our free republic."
"We really want to thank Representative Gail Haines," said Leah Warren. "As the primary House Bill sponsor, she worked very hard to make sure the bill came to a vote. Patriot Week will excite students and all Americans to learn more about--and celebrate--what makes America unique."
Patriot Week renews America's spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other Patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history. Patriot Week is anchored by the key dates of September 11 (the anniversary of the terrorist's attacks) and September 17 (Constitution Day, the anniversary of when the United States Constitution was signed). Patriot Week renews the civic calendar for all Americans.
The Senate previously approved an identical bill and is scheduled to vote on the House Bill on July 13th for final approval.
