Board makes good on 'Count Your Steps' competition for charity

On Wednesday, July 6, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners presented $700 to Karyn Milligan-Thompson, president and volunteer coordinator of the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund as a result of Commissioner Beth Nuccio winning the first-ever “Commissioners Count Your Steps Charity Competition.”

Commissioner John A. Scott issued the challenge to fellow commissioners to walk and count their steps from May 4-29.

Seven commissioners answered the call, with some counting their steps and pledging $100, and others pledging a $100 for the charity challenge.

Nuccio, the winner of the challenge, recorded 432,827 steps on her pedometer.  Other commissioners who competed and donated $100 included Commissioner Mike Bosnic who recorded 393,444 steps, Commissioner Thomas F. Middleton recorded 204,949 steps, Commissioner John A. Scott recorded 170,201 steps, and Commissioner Philip J. Weipert recorded 244,772 steps. Commissioner Helaine Zack and Board Vice Chairman Jeff Matis each donated $100 for the competition.

Members of the board continue to promote healthy initiatives such as County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s “Count Your Steps” program.
