Patriot palooza: Events to commemorate 9/11 & Patriot Week

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Patriot Week is hosting a Patriot Palooza! at Detroit's Historic Fort Wayne. In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, the Patriot Palooza! will feature a tribute to first responders, veterans, and current service officers. The event will also celebrate the themes of all 7 days of Patriot Week, and will end with a Civil Rights march led by Bishop Edgar Vann, capped by his reenacting of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech that was delivered in Detroit. The Patriot Palooza! will be held at 6325 West Jefferson in Detroit from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the Historic Fort Wayne Coalition and the Detroit Recreation Department and presented by Patriot Week, Inc. Comcast is the Red Patriot Sponsor of the Palooza! All activities are family-friendly, with free admission, open to the public, with $5 secured parking. "The Patriot Palooza! will include a fitting tribute of Sept. 11, as well as a wonderful, family friendly celebration of all that makes America the greatest nation in the world," remarked Patriot Week co-creator, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren. "We will be hosting activities and presentations that can't be found anywhere else, all to renew the American spirit," stated co-creator, twelve-year old Leah Warren. Historic re-enactors will portray soldiers from the American Revolution, Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI and WWII, and other eras. There will be live cannon demonstrations, musical presentations, and seven student-created stations on display representing each day of Patriot Week. Remarks will be given by Congressman Hansen Clarke, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, State Senator Vincent Gregory, State Representative Gail Haines, Macomb County Commission Chair Kathy Vosburg, and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick. John McCulloch of News/Talk 760 WJR will be the emcee. There will be tours of the Fort, games, scavenger hunt, and other family activities. Created by Judge Warren and his then 10 year old daughter Leah, the goal of Patriot Week is to renew the American spirit by focusing on education to revive appreciation and understanding of American history. Anchored by the key dates of Sept. 11 (Patriot Day) and Sept. 17 (the signing of the Constitution), Patriot Week celebrates the First Principles, Founding Fathers and Founding Documents that made the United States a leader in freedom and the world-recognized model of a democratic society.
