Court on campus

U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Steven Whalen (above, left), Eastern District of Michigan, conducted a live motion call of criminal and civil cases for Cooley Law School students on Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Auburn Hills campus’ trial courtroom.

The program was sponsored by the Auburn Hills student chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA).  The program, which began a couple of years ago, is a continuing program where federal judges move their court to Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus to hear motions.

“This is absolutely great that we have a magistrate judge coming in talking to students—give us a little bit of an idea of what federal motion practice is like,” noted Robert Hamor.  “I think its going to give us a lot of lessons that we wouldn’t be able to learn inside a classroom.”
