Parking tickets could cause license problems

LANSING (AP) -- It soon could be tougher and more expensive for Michigan motorists who pile up unpaid parking tickets to get their driver's licenses renewed. The state House passed a bill 58-48 last Thursday that would lower the number of unpaid tickets needed to prompt sanctions from the Secretary of State's office. Motorists now are blocked from getting or renewing their driver's licenses if they have six or more unresolved parking violations. That number would drop to three unpaid parking tickets under the bill. The bill returns to the Senate, which passed a version of the proposal last year. If the Senate agrees to changes made to the bill in the House, it could soon be sent to Gov. Rick Snyder. ---------------- Senate Bill 130. Published: Mon, Jan 30, 2012
