Patterson in good spirits as he returns to the office

 Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson was elated to get back behind his desk in the Executive Office Building (EOB) on Tuesday. He first met privately with his deputy county executives and directors. Then he conducted a meeting with his managers and chiefs in the EOB Conference Center which local media attended.

 
Patterson was greeted with a standing ovation from his managers and chiefs when he entered the conference center.
 
“You all as managers did a great job; it was seamless; you took the pressure,” Patterson said in the managers and chiefs meeting. “I just want to say thank you—thank you for the job you did and thank you for sending cards, prayers, and good wishes.”
 
Patterson’s daughter, Mary Warner, was at his side during the meeting. She thanked everyone for their support of her father.
 
“It’s dad’s will to be here and God’s will,” Warner said. “I would pray just to let him go back to work—that’s all he wants. He loves his job.”
 
“It is great to have Brooks back where he belongs, working to lead Oakland County into the future. Members of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners welcome him back and will continue to be supportive partners with his efforts,” stated Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairman Michael J. Gingell.
 
Patterson’s schedule already is filling up. He is planning a topic-specific news conference for later this week; he will host his annual Oakland County Business Roundtable Breakfast for Friday, Dec. 7; and he has set a date for his annual State of the County address, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.
 
Patterson and his security officer, James Cram, were injured in an Aug. 10 crash in Auburn Hills when a VW Passat turned in front of Patterson’s Chrysler 300. As Patterson begins this next stage, he will continue daily physical therapy.
 
“I want to say this without crying, but today I walked 168 steps on my own, but who’s counting,” Patterson said to laughter and a round of applause.
