Ex-Pontiac councilman sentenced in bribery case

DETROIT (AP) -- A former Pontiac city councilman who pleaded guilty to accepting bribes has been sentenced to 2 years and 2 months in prison. The U.S. Attorney's office says 61-year-old Everett Seay of Pontiac was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit. The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports Seay said "justice has been served" after leaving the hearing. Defense attorney Richard Morgan says the judge was "more than fair" to Seay. Authorities say Seay accepted $25,000 from a man who needed city approval to open a money-handling business in Pontiac. The government says Seay was told the shop would be used to launder drug profits. The man actually was an undercover agent. The alleged crimes occurred in 2008 and 2009 when Seay was on the Pontiac council. Published: Fri, Jun 28, 2013
