Second informational meeting hosted to help navigate health care act

On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson will host an informational meeting on the Affordable Health Care Act and teach residents how to navigate the health care system. The meeting will be held in the West Bloomfield Township Offices located at 4550 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield at 7 p.m. This is the second meeting she has hosted with the first meeting reaching seating capacity at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills on Aug. 28. Gershenson has teamed up with the non-partisan organization, Enroll America, to inform residents, including the county's 125,000 uninsured residents, about the program at these meetings. In response to recent polls citing that 78% of the uninsured do not know about the new health care markets and that 83% do not know that they qualify for healthcare, Gershenson was compelled to act to get the word out and educate residents about the system. "After such a great response from the public at the first meeting, I look forward to educating more residents about the process and helping them understand the system, as we get closer to the enrollment period which begins October 1, 2013. People need to know how they will be affected," stated Gershenson. Published: Wed, Sep 11, 2013
