Judges discuss new business court system

The Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce along with co-sponsors the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers (ISIAL) hosted a panel discussion for lawyers and business owners on the new business court system on Thursday, Sept. 5, at UDM Law School.

Among those taking part were (left to right) David O’Connor, founder and president of the Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Dan Ryan, moderator; Macomb County Circuit Court Judge John Foster; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Jeanne Stempien; Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge Archie Brown; UDM Law Professor Troy Harris; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny; ISIAL President Meghan Riordan of Kerr, Russell, & Weber PLC; Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Michael LeBeau; and Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Brian Sullivan.

“The purpose of the business court is to expedite the processing of complex business cases and the Supreme Court has created a special court and assigned special judges who have been trained in the handling of complex business matters to process those cases and give them the special attention and appropriate attention that they need. So we have judges who are the business court judges in their respective counties advising practitioners about the process of the new business court which went into effect July 1,” Ryan said.
