Dana Nessel (center), co-counsel for the DeBoer-Rowse family, spoke at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law on Tuesday, March 24. She discussed DeBoer v. Snyder, the Michigan case that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear in April as one of four cases the justices are considering regarding marriage equality.  DeBoer v. Snyder challenges Michigan’s laws forbidding same-sex marriage and same-sex second-parent adoptions.  Nessel examined the history and progression of DeBoer v. Snyder and what it means for the U.S. Supreme Court to hear this landmark case.  Her remarks were followed by a Q & A session.  Thanking Nessel for her presentation were (left to right) UDM Prof. Rosemary Weatherston and UDM Law Dean Phyllis Crocker.  This event was cosponsored by UDM’s Office of Academic Affairs; School of Law; Women’s and Gender Studies Program; College of Liberal Arts and Education; Departments of Philosophy, Performing Arts, and Political Science; and Digital Media Studies Program.
