Board announces 35th Annual Youth in Government Day

On Monday, April 27, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will welcome high students from the school districts of Ferndale, Madison Heights, Milford, Oak Park, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Southfield  Walled Lake, and White Lake for the 35th Annual Youth in Government Day Program. These students will learn about county government, meet elected officials, meet Oakland County Circuit Court judges, view a County Commissioners’ General Government Committee meeting and will be given a presentation regarding road equipment that will be on display in the courthouse’s courtyard.

Students will meet the Oakland County Commissioners, the County Clerk, the County Treasurer, the County Prosecutor and the County Water Resources Commissioner. A representative from the County Executive’s Office, and the County Sheriff or a representative from the Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to speak with students.

As part of National County Government Month, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will promote this year’s theme: “Counties Moving America Forward: The Keys are Transportation and Infrastructure.” This year, Oakland County students will be given a brief presentation from the Road Commission for Oakland County and ask questions about roads, services and current issues relating to transportation and infrastructure. Students will be able to observe and participate in the political process as a part of the 35th anniversary of Youth in Government Day which prepares today youth for tomorrow’s leadership.
