Michigan House committee OKs regulations for ride-hailing services

LANSING (AP) - Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft would be regulated by Michigan without the option for local regulations under a package approved by a state House committee.

The House Commerce and Trade Committee approved the bills Tuesday.

The package would regulate ride-hailing services differently than taxi or limo services, which fall under a mix of state and local regulations.

Changes made in committee would allow airports to create their own regulations for the services. But the changes still leave local governments unable to set their own restrictions or fees for the increasingly popular ride-hailing services.

A package in the Michigan Senate would allow local governments more flexibility.
