ANN ARBOR (AP) - A lawsuit has been filed against the University of Michigan by an Ann Arbor man who says his request to openly carry a gun on campus was denied.
The lawsuit filed in June by Joshua Wade claims the school's policy that bans him and others from carrying guns on campus violates state and U.S. constitutions. His attorney, Steven Dulan, tells the Detroit Free Press that Wade lives and works in Ann Arbor and is often near campus.
University spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said in an email to the newspaper that the school "will vigorously defend its right to regulate weapons on campus."
Earlier this year, Wade carried a gun into Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor during a concert, prompting changes from the school district followed by a lawsuit by another resident.
