Firm conducting 2nd annual Veterans Day event, November 11

The Law Offices of Goodman Acker proudly announces their 2nd annual event this Veterans Day to honor our Veterans, as well as help reduce the problem of Veterans’ homelessness.

Like many communities around the country, the metro area has people who are homeless. In Detroit alone, 2 out of 5 of homeless veterans are single and over half are part of a homeless family.  Many veterans said they became homeless for the first time since 2012.

The Caring for Our Homeless Veterans run/walk and collection drive for the Michigan Veterans Foundation will take place  Wednesday, November 11, from 6 a.m. to noon at Detroit Tough Gym, 1224 Beech Street in Detroit. The course is a 5k (3.1 mile) route going by the Mariners Inn, Michigan Veterans Foundation, and returning to Detroit Tough Gym.

Volunteers will fill backpacks with donated supplies and deliver to homeless veterans within the city.

The event will raise funds and collect goods for homeless military veterans for the Michigan Veterans Foundation, a non-profit agency founded by veterans that provides a variety of services to veterans, including transitional housing, veteran rescue, life skills and employment counseling, education, health care, PTSD  counseling, substance abuse intervention, legal assistance, benefits counseling, and housing placement assistance.

Michigan Veterans Foundation will be constructing a new facility to be located at Grand River and Forest in Detroit.  Architectural Renderings will be on display at Detroit Tough Gym on day of event.

Tyrone Chatman, executive director/CEO Michigan Veterans Foundation, recently said “We are extremely excited because this represents a new era for the foundation as it continues to fulfill its mission to proudly serve the men and women who gave of themselves on behalf of this great nation”

Jerry Acker, senior partner of Goodman Acker said, “Each year, veterans both employed and unemployed fall through the cracks and become homeless.  That is why, year after year,
Goodman Acker and Detroit Tough Gym take the initiative to help honor our heroes and give them the support they need. With your help we can help make a difference in the lives of many veterans! Let us not forget the brave sacrifices our veterans have made to keep us safe and fight for our great nation. Let’s help eliminate homelessness within our Detroit Veteran community and let them know their sacrifices have not been forgotten.”

Participants interested in the run/walk can register by visiting www.goodmanAcker.com.

Tim Horton’s will be providing breakfast. All Veterans will receive complimentary use of gym this day.

Donations of gently used or new clothing, (coats, hats, gloves, blankets, shoes etc.,) and non-disposable items, (soap, toothpaste and tooth brushes, etc.) will be collected at the event or items may be dropped off before the day of the event from October 19 until November 11 from 9 a.m.. until 5 p.m. at Goodman Acker PC, 17000 West Ten Mile in Southfield or at Detroit Tough Gym located at 1224 Beech Street in Detroit.
