Private foundation pledges up to $40K in 2016 to Detroit-area foster children

A local private foundation has come forward to help provide beds and car seats for foster families in need with a pledge of up to $40,000 to For The Seventh Generation (www.fortheseventhgeneration.org).

The Seed Foundation has pledged to provide up to $10,000 per quarter in 2016 to purchase brand-new beds and car seats for babies, children, and teens in foster care in the metro Detroit area.

For The Seventh Generation was founded and is partially supported by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation (www.detroitlawyer.org).

According to Seed Foundation founder Debbie Miesel, the gift is a natural outgrowth of her foundation’s support for the charity and its work on behalf of area foster children.

“The Seed Foundation has been working with For The Seventh Generation since it’s inception, and we have watched it grow and expand to help the most needy children and the wonderful families who take care of them.” Miesel said. “It’s a blessing that we have been fortunate enough to be able to help with these new programs, and look forward to continuing our support in the future.”

According to For The Seventh Generation Executive Director Lorraine Weber, the new pledge will make a huge difference in the lives of the children and families her organization serves.

“We hear all the time from foster care workers who want to place siblings together, or place children with a family member or friend – but they can’t because the prospective foster family can’t afford to buy expensive items like beds or car seats at a moment’s notice,” she explained.

“Thanks to this pledge, more of our area’s children in foster care will be able to stay with people they know. More siblings will be able to stay together. And when the birth parents are otherwise ready to welcome their children home, the lack of a bed or car seat won’t keep their family apart.”

Weber urged metro-area foster care workers in need of beds and/or car seats for children in their care to register their request on the charity’s website at: www.fortheseventhgeneration.org
