Eastern Michigan regents approve 4.1 percent tuition hike

YPSILANTI (AP) - Tuition and fees for undergraduate students at Eastern Michigan University are going up by 4.1 percent this year.

Regents at the Ypsilanti school approved the increase Tuesday as part of its $312.3 million general fund budget. The budget also includes a 9.7 percent increase in university-sponsored financial aid.

The tuition increase is below a 4.2 percent in-state cap instituted by the state Legislature. Schools that go over the cap could lose some state aid dollars.

Entering freshmen taking 30 credits this year at Eastern Michigan will pay $11,209 in tuition and mandatory fees.

All non-resident undergraduates entering this fall and later will be charged at the in-state tuition rate. Current non-resident students will continue paying current out-of-state rates, but will not see an increase to their 2016-17 tuition rate.
