Committee on judiciary evaluates Judge Garland as 'Well Qualified'

The American Bar Association's Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, chaired by Karol Corbin Walker of Newark, N.J., released its evaluation of the professional qualifications of Merrick B. Garland to be associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

The Standing Committee's rating letter and explanatory statement were sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the White House, the Department of Justice and the nominee. They are posted for the public at americanbar.org.

The committee concluded that Garland is "a preeminent member of the legal profession with outstanding legal ability and exceptional breadth of experience" and that he "meets the very highest standards of integrity, professional competence and judicial temperament."

The Standing Committee rated Garland is "Well Qualified" to serve as associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
