PHOTO #1: Constitution Day is celebrated in the United States on Sept. 17 and to mark the day Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren presented “The Presidency: Electors, Elections & Campaigns 1789-Today” at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus. “What most people don’t realize is that when they vote for president, they are voting for electors, who in turn vote for the president,” said Warren. “What they really don’t realize, is that the only reason they have a vote at all, is because the state legislatures have given them the vote—historically most electoral votes were chosen by the legislatures themselves—the people didn’t have a voice at all.” Following the presentation Warren led a discussion about how the Constitution’s founders would react to Clinton v. Trump. “Although the current election seems disheartening and vexatious, it’s hardly unique in American presidential politics,” noted Warren. “A careful review of campaign history will reveal that outlandish, preposterous lies have been part and parcel of the American elections since John Adams and Thomas Jefferson squared off in 1796.”

PHOTO #2: Welcoming Warren (center) to the campus on Sept. 17 were (left to right) Warren’s clerk and WMU-Cooley student Helen Khouli, and WMU-Cooley Associate Dean Lisa Halushka.  Warren is the author of “America’s Survival Guide – How to Stop America’s Impending Suicide by Reclaiming Our First Principles and History.” In 2009, along with his then 10-year-old daughter, Warren created “Patriot Week” which renews America’s spirit by celebrating the first principles, founding fathers and other patriots, vital documents, and speeches.
