Snyder signs bill establishing limits on fundraising license plates

On Wednesday, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed legislation sponsored by the late state Rep. Peter Pettalia that limits the number of  license plates used for fundraising purposes.

“Rep. Pettalia was a dedicated public servant who held his sense of duty to work on behalf of his constituency in the highest regard,” Snyder said. “This bill reflects Peter’s common-sense approach to creating new laws and policies, and his legacy as an exceptional legislator and dedicated Michigander will never be forgotten.”

House Bill 5447, limits the amount of fundraising license plates available at one time to 20, excluding Michigan university plates. The bill also requires the beneficiary organization requesting the plates to pay all of the costs associated with making them available and ceases the distribution of plates unable to meet the sales quota. The measure is now Public Act 327 of 2016.

The governor signed the bill Wednesday joined by the late representative’s wife, Karen Pettalia, and daughter, Anna, as well as House Speaker Kevin Cotter.
