Lansing School District settles two former students' lawsuits

LANSING (AP) — The Lansing School District has agreed to pay $405,000 to end two lawsuits filed by former students who said they were sexually assaulted on school property.

The Lansing State Journal reports the district agreed in March to pay $180,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a former student who said another student assaulted her in Eastern High School in October 2015.

The district also recently agreed to pay $225,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by another ex-student who was raped at the same school’s campus in September 2014.

The district had previously denied wrongdoing in both cases.

District spokesman Bob Kolt says the lawsuit settled in March “has been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.” He declined to comment about the proposed settlement in the other student’s lawsuit.
