Commissioners participate in annual NACo conference

Oakland County Commissioners David E. S. Bowman, Shelley Goodman Taub, Adam L. Kochenderfer and Helaine Zack will join over 1,500 other county officials in Washington, D.C. this week to work on key policy issues at the 2018 National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference. They are among approximately 30 other county commissioners from Michigan that are participating in the conference this year.

This annual event draws on the local experiences and expertise of commissioners from more than 3,000 counties nationwide to craft policy initiatives for Congress and federal regulators. The commissioners will have the opportunity to meet with members of Michigan’s congressional delegation, including U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, to discuss federal priorities for the year, including infrastructure funding, the opioid crisis, Medicaid and more.

“Though it’s an election year, we still expect to see significant policy moves on Capitol Hill this year” said Stephan W. Currie, executive director of the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC). “Because of that, it’s vital to have our county commissioners speak directly with federal lawmakers about local situations, local needs and federal efforts.”
