MI Student Aid program shows Michiganders how to pay for college

With April as National Financial Literacy Month, the Michigan Department of Treasury is reminding families and students looking for help paying for college to consider checking out the MI Student Aid program as a resource for navigating the financial aid process.

"Navigating the financial aid process can be overwhelming and complicated," said Anne Wohlfert, director of Treasury's Student Financial Services Bureau. "Many college-bound students and their families don't know where to begin. As the state's go-to resource for college financial aid information, MI Student Aid can provide students and families with resources to make the process much easier."

Treasury's MI Student Aid Team visits communities across the state to educate and inform students and their families about the available options for paying for college. Whether on the road or at home team, members can help with the following:

- State scholarships and grants

- 529 college savings programs

- Financial aid webinars

- Publications promoting financial aid information

- On-site outreach visits at college fairs and schools

- Video library educating residents about state programs

- Online scholarship search service

These resources are free and available to the public. To learn more about the financial resources available for paying for college, including a list of upcoming outreach events, students and their families are encouraged to visit www.michigan.gov/mistudentaid.
