The U.S. District Court, the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Wolverine Bar Association jointly hosted a Law Day open house on Tuesday, May 1, at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit.  The theme of Law Day 2018 was “Separation of Powers: Framwork for Freedom.”  On hand to welcome guests to the event were (left to right) Amy Johnston of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, &?Stone PLC; Ben Sobczak of Dickinson Wright PLLC; U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David Grand; John Sier of Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, Valittuti, and Sherbrook; and FBA Immediate Past President Susan Fairchild of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Law Clerk Matt Monaghan (left) was happy to welcome a group of high school students to the federal courthouse. The open house featured courthouse tours, an “Ask the Lawyer” pro bono program, free hot dogs and chips, and agency displays.  Law Day offers an opportunity for the federal courthouse to open the doors for high school students to learn about what the federal courts do and get exposed to career opportunities in law enforcement and other federal agencies.
