The Oakland County Board of Commissioners (BOC), in partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Oakland County Health Division, and Oakland Schools, held a press conference on Tuesday, June 19, to promote responsible gun ownership and to publicize the BOC’s annual gun lock giveaway. This year, the press conference also highlighted Oakland County’s school safety-related resources, which include active shooter preparedness information, youth suicide prevention information, anti-bullying information, and more. Speaking at the Board of Commissioners Auditorium in Pontiac were Leigh-Anne Stafford, health officer with the Oakland County Health Division; Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard; and Commissioners Janet Jackson and Tom J. Berman. A school safety resources webpage (www.oakgov.com/schoolsafety) was launched by the BOC at the beginning of June to provide Oakland County students, parents, teachers, professionals and others with important school safety information and to connect them to both local and national resources.
