Ex-judge pleads guilty in prostitution investigation

MONROE (AP) - A former Michigan judge accused of paying women for violent sex has pleaded guilty to misconduct in office.

Jarold Calkins was a District Court judge in Monroe County when he was charged in March. He was suspended and eventually quit.

Calkins was initially charged with prostitution crimes. But the attorney general's office says the charges were replaced by misconduct in office charges. The four young women wanted to remain anonymous.

The attorney general's office says Calkins admitted allegations about paying women for sex, which were described in a state police affidavit.

Prosecutors will press for a prison sentence when the 41-year-old Calkins returns to court on Nov. 29.
