Law student association to host fundraiser

On Saturday, March 30, the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Black Law Students Association (BLSA) will hosts its annual Vegas Night scholarship fundraiser. BLSA is a professional organization of students dedicated to strengthening minority presence within the legal profession. With this goal in mind, BLSA provides four scholarships to minority law students every year and partners with local high schools to inspire young minorities to pursue legal education and careers.

Vegas Night is a cocktail dress, casino-style fundraiser in which attendees enjoy food, drinks, music, and casino games played with funny money while supporting scholarships for law students by participating in a silent auction. During this year’s event, students will honor alumna Lisa W. Timmons with the 2019 Alumni Achievement Award: Breaking the Glass Ceiling for her outstanding leadership, mentorship, and contributions to the legal community.

The fundraiser, themed Old Hollywood, highlights Black entrepreneurship and pays homage to the Black Bottom era. Several Black-owned businesses will be represented, from local artists to a Black-owned caterer. This event will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. at the College for Creative Studies, 201 East Kirby, Detroit.

All members of the legal community are welcome to attend. To purchase tickets, donate, or become a sponsor, visit www.detroitmercylaw.com/blsa. Questions may be directed to blsa@udmercy.edu.
