Students selected for Public Interest Law Fellowships

Five Wayne State University Law School students will gain experience and serve a variety of agencies this summer, thanks to the support of the 2019 Public Interest Law Fellowships.

The 2019 fellowship recipients and their organizations are:

- Meagan Dreher, second-year student - ACLU of Michigan
- Elisabeth Moore, second-year student - Wayne County Prosecutor's Office
- Katherine Olds, second-year student - Detroit Justice Center
- Lauren Pereny, second-year student - Federal Defender Office
- Veronica Walrad, first-year student - Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender

Each student will volunteer 40 hours a week for ten weeks, collectively providing more than 3,000 hours of service to organizations serving the public and under-represented individuals.

Wayne Law created the fellowships in 2009 to give students opportunities to gain practical experience in public interest law before graduation, ease student financial stresses and offer much-needed assistance to organizations providing legal services to underserved constituencies. Fellowship recipients are selected each year by a committee of Wayne Law faculty members, staff and alumni.
