The Oakland County Bar Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving the citizens of Oakland County and the legal profession, furthered its ability to award grants through its 20th Annual Signature Event, raising more than $238,000 to support local legal aid and education programs. More than 400 members of Oakland County’s legal community attended the event, held on April 25 at Oakland Hills Country Club.

“Each year, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of the individuals and companies in our law community and their commitment to providing equal access to justice and remaining educated on the issues that impact us all,” said Veronica Leonard, president of the Foundation. “As we reflect on the past 20 years of the Signature Event, we’re humbled to celebrate with our friends and colleagues who have helped make the past two decades so impactful and transformative. We look forward to working closely with our community partners to enact more positive change.”

With $182,300 raised from sponsorships and donations, and an additional $56,000 in ticket sales, the event’s revenue totaled $238,300, according to Leonard.

Since 2002, the Foundation has contributed more than $2.5 million to legal assistance and education programs. Proceeds from past events have assisted the important work of the CASA Program (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) through CARE House, the Family Law Assistance Project, Beaumont Patient Legal Support Program, Michigan Center for Civic Education Through Law, Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center, Youth Law Conference and more. The final deadline for grant application submissions for the 2018-19 fiscal year is May 20. More information on the grant application process is available at http://www.ocba.org/apply-for-an-ocbf-grant.
