Local lawyers volunteer for free legal aid clinic

On Saturday, June 8, Michigan’s biggest free legal aid clinic rolls out the red carpet on this year’s edition of the annual pro bono outdoor event. Law Day 2019 is celebrating 32 consecutive years. It is held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Goodwin & Scieszka Law Center at 999 Haynes in Birmingham, just south of Maple (15 Mile) and east of Woodward behind Walgreens.

Law Day is a family-friendly combo: free legal advice for adults (family law, personal injury, auto accidents, bankruptcy, medical issues, and more); free carnival fun for the kids with superhero characters, live music, bounce houses, photo booth, and face painting; free food; and more.

The event will feature 20 attorneys and two radio stations broadcasting live. In adition, 500 free bike helmets will be given away along with prizes for Detroit Tigers tickets, four new bicycles, superhero DVDs, and more.

Founding partner Scott Goodwin says, “Some of the area’s top attorneys donate their time to help local families. It’s a great way to give back to our community!” Goodwin is past president of the Michigan Association for Justice. His awards include Lawyer of the Year (2004), Leader of the Law 2016 by Michigan Lawyers Weekly, and Top 100 by Super Lawyers.

Since 1987, Law Day has donated 5,000 free legal consultations and 10,000 free bike helmets. For additional information, call 1-888-GOODWIN.
