Request for Proposals to help juvenile justice efforts

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), in collaboration with the Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for local units of government to enhance court data systems for improved data collection regarding racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system.

MDHHS is committed to enhancing court data systems in order to collect data focused on racial and ethnic disparity decision points. Applicants funded through this program must be able to explain in their application what court system is currently used for data collection and what enhancements will be implemented in order to achieve the collection of data pertaining to racial and ethnic disparities.

MDHHS expects to award approximately $225,000 annually through this competitive RFP process to three agencies, with funding of up to $75,000 per year to implement and evaluate programming to reduce RED in their jurisdictions.

The Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice provides advice, suggestions and solutions to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on juvenile justice issues. The committee works collaboratively with MDHHS and other agencies. It has been instrumental in changing practices, policies and philosophies to improve the juvenile justice system.

Grant applications must be submitted electronically through the MI E-Grants program by Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. The program period begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30, 2020.
