Famed local restaurant closing its doors August 17

DETROIT (AP) - A suburban Detroit restaurant that once counted Elizabeth Taylor and Muhammad Ali among its diners is serving up its final meals.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Ginopolis Restaurant in Farmington Hills will close on Aug. 17 after nearly four decades.

Seventy-seven-year-old co-owner Johnny Ginopolis says "it was time to move on" after he and his younger brother, Pete Ginopolis, had operated the restaurant since 1982.

Photographs lining its walls commemorate the many celebrities who dined there over the decades.

Johnny Ginopolis says actress Elizabeth Taylor once feasted on the restaurant's famed ribs at her chauffeur's suggestion.

Bob Hope was among many other celebrities who ate there, including frequent diners Frank Sinatra and Muhammad Ali.

The restaurant building will be torn down and replaced with an assisted living center.
