Citizens sought to serve on county Health Network Board

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications for several upcoming vacancies on the Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) Board. Interested applicants must be Oakland County residents and at least 18 years of age. The deadline to apply is November 25.

Applications for the following openings will be reviewed by the Legislative Affairs and Government Operations Committee, which will recommend candidates to the Board of Commissioners:

• Two (2) secondary consumers, which are individuals who have a family member that receives mental health services (one will be completing a term ending March 31, 2020)
• Two (2) members of the general public
• One (1) individual working for an agency/entity that provides mental health services

The candidates appointed by the Board of Commissioners will serve three (3) year terms ending on March 31, 2023. As noted above, one of the secondary consumer vacancies requires completing a term for a former member, and that appointment will end on March 31, 2020.

OCHN is responsible for assuring the provision of services and support to children and adults with mental illness, emotional disturbances and developmental disabilities. The OCHN Board examines and evaluates the mental health needs of Oakland County and determines the public and non-public services necessary to meet those needs.

To apply, go to www.oakgov.com/boc, navigate to “Committees & Authorities” and then to “Ad Hoc Committees.” A link to the application form is available under the “Oakland Community Health Network” section. If you have questions or need assistance with the application process, please contact Pam Worthington at 248-858-0104 or worthingtonp@oakgov.com.

The 12-member OCHN Board is representative of mental health service providers, recipients or primary consumers of mental health services, agencies or occupations involved with mental health services and the general public. Board members are appointed to three (3) year terms and are assigned a standing committee that typically meets once a month.  For additional information about OCHN, visit www.occmha.org.
