Ruth Johnson builds Secretary of State team

LANSING (AP) -- Michigan Secretary of State-elect Ruth Johnson is building the staff that will join her when she takes office in January. Johnson this week appointed Oakland County deputy clerk Mike Senyko to be her chief of staff. He's a former Fenton city manager.

Chris Hackbarth will be Johnson's director of government affairs. Hackbarth recently worked with the Michigan Municipal League and also worked in the attorney general's office and with Republicans in the state Legislature.

Alan Filip will be director of external affairs, Randall Thompson will be director of communications and Renee Thompson will be director of the executive office.

Johnson, a Republican, was elected Secretary of State in November. She's ending her tenure as the Oakland County clerk.
