Man pleads no contest in torching of trailer

PONTIAC (AP) -- A 26-year-old Oakland County man who authorities say tried to burn his family's trailer with his wife and four children inside has pleaded no contest in the case.

WHMI-FM reports Mark Mitchell of Lyon Township entered the plea to a charge of arson of a dwelling last Thursday in Circuit Court.

Sentencing was set for July 21.

Authorities have said Mitchell was arrested after the fire broke out Feb. 4 at his mobile home in Lyon Township, about 30 miles west-northwest of Detroit. The sheriff's department has said he told deputies he poured gasoline on one side of the home but denied igniting it.

Officers put out the fire with extinguishers before firefighters arrived.
