November 1 auction set for tax foreclosures

The Washtenaw County Treasurer, Catherine McClary, will conduct the final 2011 auction for tax-foreclosed properties on Tuesday, November 1. The auction will be held in-person by the treasurer at the courthouse; it begins at 10 a.m. The list of properties, Property Data Sheets, and the Terms and Conditions of sale are available on treasurer.ewashtenaw.org. Opening bids begin at $350 for each auction item included in this tax-foreclosed property auction. Auction items include single-family homes, vacant lots, commercial properties, and two large tracts ready for development. Bidders must register prior to bidding and proxy bidding is permitted. A deposit of $350 is required to bid and is applied to the purchase price for winning bidders. The deposit is refunded if the bidder chooses not to bid or is not a winning bidder. Call 734-222-6600 or e-mail taxes@ewashtenaw.org for bidder registration forms. McClary said, "One benefit of the auction process is that tax-foreclosed properties get put back on the tax rolls and it lessens any charge-backs to cities and townships for taxes that were advanced to them in prior years." She added that "another positive aspect is that winning bidders have the opportunity to purchase property at rock-bottom prices."
