Prison Creative Arts Project members to meet

The Prison Creative Arts Project will host membership meetings 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, and Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Room 1405, East Quad, 701 E. University Ave., Ann Arbor.

Meetings offer peer support for workshop facilitators and a group discussion or activity for all members. Members facilitate arts workshops in Michigan adult correctional facilities, juvenile facilities, and urban high schools. Through  activities, discussion, and hard work, each workshop creates  plays, writing, dance, music, and visual art that is shared with others through performances and/or exhibitions.
PCAP trains college students to facilitate arts workshops in prisons, juvenile facilities, and Detroit high schools.  PCAP courses taught at the University of Michigan serve as gateways for undergraduate participation in workshops and provide structured support  and  training in issues surrounding incarceration and practical skills in the arts.

PCAP will present “A Panel Discussion On Being LGBTQ In The Criminal Justice System,” 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at the Michigan Union.
