More than 30 Michigan gang members indicted

DETROIT (AP) - More than 30 members of a Detroit street gang have been indicted on federal drug and firearm charges. U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade announced last Friday five of the 33 Latin Counts members were also indicted on racketeering charges, including assaults, murder, narcotics, firearms and robbery. She says the suspects were indicted on charges involving the distribution of heroin and cocaine, as well as various firearm offenses. Members of the Latin Counts identify themselves with red and black clothing and accessories typically tilted to the left. Their tattoos and street tags usually feature a five-pointed star or crown. The indictment says branches of the street gang operate in Michigan, including Lincoln Park, Ecorse and southwest Detroit, and Illinois. Published: Tue, Jul 29, 2014
