Three ordered to trial in French street artist slaying

DETROIT (AP) - A judge has ordered three young males to stand trial for murder in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old French street artist during a robbery outside an abandoned Detroit housing project. Twenty-three-year-old Bilal Berreni of Paris was found dead in July 2013. He had no identification, and it took seven months before police identified him through fingerprints. Detroit District Judge Michael Wagner ruled Tuesday that there's sufficient evidence to send 20-year-old Drequone Rich to trial on a first-degree murder charge. Wagner last Friday ordered 17-year-old Dionte Travis and 18-year-old Jasin Curtis tried on the same charge. A trial would be in Wayne County Circuit Court. The three defendants make their first appearance in that court Friday. A 14-year-old is awaiting a separate trial in juvenile court. Published: Thu, Jan 15, 2015
