Michigan unemployment rate up just a bit in November

LANSING (AP) - Michigan's unemployment rate moved up slightly in November to 5.1 percent.

The seasonally adjusted rate was 5 percent in October and 6.5 percent a year ago. The national rate in November was 5 percent.

Jason Palmer, director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information, said Wednesday that the slight increase was related to the unemployed entering the workforce.

It's the first increase in the Michigan unemployment rate since May. The jobless rate in the Detroit area was 5.9 percent.
