Karen Geibel announces candidacy for Probate Court

Karen Geibel, former judicial staff attorney for Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Rudy Nichols, announced Wednesday that she is running for Oakland County Probate Court.

Geibel will be running for the seat that will be vacated at the end of this year currently held by Judge Elizabeth Pezzetti who cannot run again because of state mandated age limits.

Former Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Bill Hampton says, “Karen Geibel is one of the finest research attorneys I’ve known.  Perceptive, analytical and knowledgeable.  She’d be an asset to the bench.”  Attorney William Booth adds, “Karen has a wealth of Oakland County courthouse knowledge and experience in multiple areas of the law.”

Her former boss, retired Judge Nichols agrees:  “Karen is an intelligent, dedicated and hard working attorney who would be a great addition to the bench.”

Geibel, 43, began working for the Oakland County Circuit Court in 1999, and was a judicial research attorney for Nichols from 2004-2015.  Before that, she served as his deputy law clerk and also practiced insurance defense at a private firm.  She is currently an attorney at Collins, Einhorn, Farrell specializing in the firm’s General and Auto Liability Insurance Group.

During her tenure in her former position at the court, Geibel was responsible for the day-to-day procedural and substantive issues of the court; research and analysis of all legal issues; preparation of written opinions and oral rulings regarding all dispositive motions, injunctions, appeals, jury instructions and evidentiary issues; and meeting with attorneys and members
of the public for conflict resolution.  She participated in docket management and pre-trial preparation of all cases.

Geibel is active in the Oakland County Bar Association and is a member of the Circuit Court committee and several Bench/Bar conferences over the years.  She is also active in the Rochester Junior Woman’s Club where she has been a chair and co-chair of some of the club’s major fundraisers.

Geibel is a catechist and life-long member of St. Kieran Catholic Church and also serves as chairman of Board for the Romeo Girls Softball League, a community non-profit youth organization.  Her memberships include the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce and Jewish Bar Association of Michigan, among others.

“I have a passion for public service and I think my experience in running a court room means I am prepared to be a judge on day one,” Geibel says.  “Justice delayed is justice denied and people with issues before the court should expect a judge to be compassionate yet assertive when needed and ready to do their job when they appear before them.”
