Board presents honors

On Wednesday, February 15, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners recognized the Sky’s The Limit elite student athletes, parents, and coaches on their historic basketball season traveling 10 months out of state and 12 months in state competing against the nation’s best.

The Sky’s The Limit is a non-profit organization that works for the betterment of our youth in the City of Pontiac and surrounding communities. STL is an affiliated organization of The Amateur Athletic Union of the U.S. Inc. (“AAU”) and is recognized as 501(c)3 tax exempt under its group determination ruling.

PHOTO #2: In addition, Oakland County officials presented a proclamation recognizing Bloomfield Hills Superintendent Dr. Robert J. Glass (third from left) as Michigan’s 2017 Superintendent of the Year at the February 15 meeting. Thanking Glass for all his efforts were (left to right) Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown, and Commissioners Shelley Goodman Taub, Tom J. Berman, and Doug Tietz. The Michigan Association of  School Administrators named Glass the 2017 Michigan Superintendent of the Year.  The award is presented to a member who has shown tremendous effort and dedication to enriching the lives of children and the community as a whole. Glass joined Bloomfield Hills Schools in 2010 following nearly two years as superintendent in Dexter Community Schools. Before that, he was executive director of instruction for Birmingham Public Schools and principal at Quarton School in Birmingham.

PHOTO #3: Also during the February 15 meeting, the Glenn W. Levey Middle School Marching Jaguars were honored for their outstanding achievements. The Marching Jaguars are the only middle school band to have performed at the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony in Honolulu, Hawaii during the 75th commemoration in 2016. They are also the first middle school to have performed at the 87th America’s Thanksgiving Parade. The band has the national distinction of being featured in the documentary “Point & Drive.”
