DETROIT (AP) - The U.S. marshal for eastern Michigan has retired after 16 years in the law enforcement post.
Robert Grubbs informed federal court officials that he was stepping down from the Detroit-based post. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the retirement Tuesday.
The job of marshal requires nomination by the president and confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Grubbs worked at the state police and was head of Gov. John Engler's security team when he was picked by President George W. Bush in 2002.
He continued to serve through the Obama administration and 18 months of the Trump administration.
Grubbs was in charge of security at the five federal courthouses in the eastern Michigan and responsible for other law enforcement duties, including prisoner transport, witness protection, and searches for fugitives.
