Rhoades McKee’s unflagging commitment to the exciting Reeds Lake Triathlon resulted in the event’s 30th anniversary Sept. 9.

Almost 750 participants competed in the traditional triathlon, composed of a half mile swim, a 17.2 mile bicycle ride and a 4.9 mile run, or in the new Duathlon, which involves a 2 mile run, a 17.2 mile bike ride, and another run for 4.9 miles. The events start at John Collins Park in East Grand Rapids.

“Community events like the triathlon enhance our engagement in community and encourage wellness throughout all age groups.   This year’s race included participants from age 14 to 74,”  stated Peter Lozicki, Rhoades McKee attorney and triathlete.   “The event distances create opportunities for individuals of all ages and varying levels of fitness.

“Our firm views our involvement in this premier event as an extension of our investment in West Michigan as well as a vehicle to promote healthy and active lifestyles in our community,” Lozicki continued.

DA Blodgett/St. John’s Home will be the sole beneficiary of the event, in keeping with Rhoades McKee’s pledge to support organizations that improve the lives of children,
Triathlon winners included Abby Geurink 1:28:01 (2nd place Samantha Kennedy, 3rd place Megan James) and Jimi Minnema 1:21:28 (2nd place David Vandemeer; 3rd place Matt Smith). Marie Dershem (1:32:53) and Jeremy Hurley (1:24:48) won the Duathlon.
