Byl is elected as Fellow to ACOEL

Warner Norcross + Judd LLP partner John V. Byl has been elected as a Fellow to (ACOEL, the American College of Environmental Lawyers

A member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan and Grand Rapids Bar Association, Byl was one of 22 new Fellows elected in 2021, and the only one from Michigan.

A longtime environmental and economic incentives lawyer, Byl has helped clients bring countless redevelopment projects, compliance issues and other matters to successful conclusion. His extensive work in the environmental area includes drafting brownfield and environmental cleanup laws.

Byl is a frequent lecturer and has written numerous articles about environmental and economic incentive statutory and regulatory developments, as well as authored or edited chapters of several environmental books and other works. He serves as outside environmental counsel for Amway, Wolverine Worldwide and others.

He is recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America in environmental law and listed in The International Who’s Who of Environmental Lawyers. He is a Michigan Super Lawyer and was recognized as Grand Rapids Magazine’s 2019-20 Top Lawyer in environmental law.
 

Kennedy joins Wheeler Upham
 

Barbara J Kennedy has joined Wheeler Upham, PC, in Grand Rapids, as a senior associate. 

She is a civil litigator with experience primarily in professional liability, domestic relations, landlord/ tenant, general civil litigation, and professional licensing matters. 

Kennedy earned her JD from Detroit College of Law, now Michigan State University College of Law, where she participated in Student Senate and Moot Court.
