WSU Law students compete

Wayne State University Law School second-year students Lauren Kwapis and Michael LaMarra came in second place overall in the John J. Gibbons National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition at Seton Hall University in Newark, N.J. last month.

Kwapis and LaMarra, who were coached by third-year students Anna Heinl and Kenny Koshorek, competed against 39 other teams from ABA accredited schools across the nation.

In addition to taking the No. 2 spot overall, the team took second place brief, Kwapis ranked seventh place oralist of the preliminary rounds and LaMarra ranked in the top 25 percent of oralists in the preliminary rounds.

“The Moot Court organization is very proud of the Gibbons team,” said Melissa Slotta, director of Outside Competitions. “Anna and Kenny are not only highly skilled oral advocates, but are also amazing coaches and did an excellent job in preparing Lauren and Michael for the competition.

“Lauren and Michael are extremely talented legal writers and oralists. They are highly dedicated competitors and their tremendous accomplishments at this competition is a true testament to their skills. We were very proud to have them represent Wayne Law.”
