The Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce, along with co-sponsors the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers (ISIAL), recently hosted a panel discussion for lawyers and business owners on the new business court system. Macomb County Circuit Court Judge John Foster (third from left), who directs the county’s business court and serves as well as chief judge of both Macomb County circuit and probate court, was among those taking part in the event at UDM Law School. Joining Foster were (from left) David O’Connor, founder and president of the Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Dan?Ryan, moderator; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Jeanne Stempien; Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge Archie Brown; UDM Law Professor Troy Harris; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny; ISIAL President Meghan Riordan of Kerr, Russell, & Weber PLC; Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Michael LeBeau; and Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Brian Sullivan. Ryan said the purpose of the business court “is to expedite the processing of complex business cases and the Supreme Court has created a special court and assigned special judges who have been trained in the handling of complex business matters to process those cases and give them the special attention and appropriate attention that they need.”
