SBM panel to discuss representation of survivors of assault

The Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present “A Panel Discussion on Representing Survivors of Assault” on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Affirmations in Ferndale.

The event is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Affirmations is located at 290 W. Nile Mile Rd.

The panel will include:

• Jessica Bertollini of #happyperioddetroit providing introduction and discussion of the movement for feminine hygiene products in shelters.

• Heidi Sharp of Burgess, Sharp, & Golden PLLC on issues unique to representing survivors of assault in labor and employment issues.

• William Knight of Lakeshore Legal Aid and Ashley Lowe of Wayne State University Law School on issues unique to representing survivors of assault in family court, landlord tenant matters, and criminal matters.

• Sara Dobbyn of Turning Point on safety planning.

Since feminine hygiene products are among the most needed items in women’s shelters, the YLS is asking for a donation of feminine hygiene products in lieu of a registration fee (to be collected at the time of the event).
 
Donations will benefit Turning Point, a shelter in Macomb County.
