PHOTO #1: The Macomb County Bar Foundation held a ceremony recently to pay tribute to students who participated in its Law Day 2016 poster and essay contest. Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano (seated far right), who served on the Macomb County Circuit Court bench prior to his selection to the high court, was among the dignitaries on hand for the event at the County Administration building. He is pictured with (from left in front row) Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Switalski, retired Circuit Court Judge James Biernat Sr. and his son, Chief Circuit Court Judge James Biernat Jr., along with (left to right, back row) 37th District Court Chief Judge John Chmura, 41-B District Court Chief Judge Carrie Fuca, Circuit Court Judge James Toia and 41-A District Court Chief Judge Stephen Sierawski.

PHOTO #2: The theme for the local competition as well as events and commemorations across the country was “Miranda: More Than Words.” Students from across Macomb County took part in the contest, with children from first through fourth grade submitting posters and students in grades six through eight submitting essays on the landmark 1966 U.S. Supreme Court decision. Those attending the Law Day ceremony were able to view many of the winning entries. Among those on display were posters submitted by (from left) Charley-Ann Kurzynski and Angelina Marchesi, students at Parkway Christian, and Sabrina DiLisio from St. Mary School.
