Macomb County Community Mental Health receives $3.4 million to expand services

Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) has been selected by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, alongside 17 other Michigan community mental health agencies, to receive a grant award and identification as a Certified Community Behavior Health Clinic (CCBHC).

The award is funded through U.S. Sen. Senator Debbie Stabenow’s ‘Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Expansion Act’ — which created CCBHCs to transform the way mental health and addiction treatment services are delivered in Michigan and across the country.

The act requires awardees to provide a comprehensive set of services surrounding outpatient mental health and substance use treatment services, 24-hour crisis services, and a coordination of care and partnerships with emergency rooms, law enforcement, and veterans’ groups.

Of the $960 million of federal funding secured by Senator Stabenow, Macomb County Community Mental Health was awarded $3.4 million, which will be used to strengthen and expand services throughout Macomb County.

“This grant and new identification both serve as a catalyst in the expansion of our mental health services,” said Dave Pankotai, CEO of MCCMH. “Many thanks to Senator Debbie Stabenow and her commitment to ensuring that all community members are getting the help that they need.”

Serving more than 17,000 families last year, MCCMH has been Macomb County’s primary mental health resource in providing children, adults and veterans with services surrounding crises, mental illness, emotional disturbances, intellectual and developmental disabilities and substance use. Physical health services for the CCBHC will be coordinated with MyCare Health Center in Clinton Township.

In response to COVID-19, the organization has also implemented telehealth methods which has allowed community members to gain even more access to services.

“This funding, coupled with the new expansion of telehealth services, will allow MCCMH to serve more community members than ever before,” said Pankotai.
