Wayne Law presents small business and nonprofit seminar

The Wayne State University Law School Small Business Enterprises and Nonprofit Corporations Clinic will present a small business and nonprofit seminar from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, in the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights Lecture Hall. The seminar is free and open to the public. "This seminar will help nonprofits and small businesses identify and address the most common practical, financial and legal obstacles," according to Eric C. Williams, assistant professor of law (clinical) and director of the Small Business Enterprises and Nonprofit Corporations Clinic. "We will have a lot of practical information for anyone starting a business, expanding their business, forming a nonprofit, creating a board or looking for investors." Topics to be covered include: employment issues for small businesses and nonprofits, forming nonprofit boards, intellectual property issues, using the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) website, preparing a business for investors and selecting the proper business entity. The event will feature speakers from Detroit SOUP, the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, the Woodward Corridor Initiative, and other organizations dedicated to assisting local businesses and nonprofits.
